The Zabulon Skipper is a tiny grass skipper which is very common along forest pathways and in meadows from April through November. Males are bright orangey-yellow with lots of rusty brown markings. You can see this bright color as these skippers whip through openings in the woods defending their perches. The species is the most sexually dimorphic of all butterflies in New Jersey as females are a beautiful goldish-brown with violet and white markings!!
