The White M Hairstreak (Parrhasius m-album) is a very distinct gray-brown large hairstreak with the namesake “M” shape, the top of which points toward the tails. There is also an orange semi-oval touching the “M” at the apex and a black dot at the outer part of the orange portion. The blue near the hindwing edge has no orange cap. Also note a single white dash near the inner portion of the hindwing which is unique to this species in NJ. One of the coolest characteristics of White M Hairstreaks is their rarely seen dorsal side wings which flash iridescent blue when making short flights. It is incredible to see!!
