Southern Cloudywing

Female - August 2016

The Southern Cloudywing (Thorybes bathyllus) is a tan spread-wing skipper with white wing-markings and white fringe on the wing-edges. They can be very similar to the Northern Cloudywing in appearance. I’ve only come across this species twice in all the times I’ve been out in the field.

Female - August 2016

The ventral side of the wings is a beautiful combination of mottled tan and brown with the white details appearing on the underside as well as some lavender flecking near the body.
