The Least Skipper (Ancycloxypha numitor) is our smallest grass skipper here in New Jersey. They have rounded wings that are mostly plain and goldish-orange from the ventral side, with fairy prominent wing veins, and dark brown at the center of the forewing which usually isn’t visible. From they dorsal side, forwings are dark brown with some orange along the leading edge, and hindwings are orange with a wide dark brown border and light fringe. These skippers have a light, bouncy and low flight, sweeping softly through grasses and flower patches. They almost look like a moth at times.
