The Henry’s Elfin (Callophrys henrici) is a tiny brown hairstreak butterfly that emerges very early March through late May and has a very dark brown appearance with outer edges of the wings having a greenish hue with some white or purple frosting. A helpful identifier is the little white dashes at the edge of the dark portion of the hindwing, which are not present on the somewhat similar early flyers - Hoary or Frosted Elfins. Frosted Elfins are also much less common and don’t have frosting on the forewing edge. Hoary Elfins have forewing frosting but it is a much more narrow band close to the forewing edge.
