The Gray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus) is our lightest hairstreak and appears almost silvery-gray as opposed to brownish-gray. There is a pair of vibrant fiery orange marks near the ventral side hindwing edge and the one on top has a black dot near the wing margin. Notice also a row of white, black and orange lines along the center portion of the forewing and hindwing. These butterflies open their wings much more than other hairstreaks and the dorsal side is dark blue-gray with males having orange on the abdomen.
