The Giant Swallowtail (Papilio cresphontes) is an uncommon very large black butterfly with a bold yellow band extending across the forewing points on the dorsal side, a second curved yellow band across the hindwings, and yellow teardrops on the tails. From the ventral side, this butterfly has a mostly yellow body and lots of yellow details on the black wing base, separated on the hindwing by a band of blue and orange markings. They are about the size of the much more common Tiger Swallowtail. Male Black Swallowtails are similar but smaller, and have only the curved yellow band across the dorsal side forewing and hindwing.
