The Frosted Elfin (Callophrys irus) is a very rare and state threatened hairstreak butterfly. To me they seem to have more of a contrast between the wing colors as the forewing is more of a coppery red-brown, and the hindwing has a darker more purpley sheen. Though they are named Frosted Elfins, frosting is only present on the hindwing where Hoary and Henry’s Elfins have frosting on both wings. There is a notable very dark patch at the center of the hindwing which stands out on most individuals. This is unique as compared with Hoary or Henry’s Elfin on which the inner portion of the hindwing is more uniform in color. Also note the single dark dot amid the light frosting near the hindwing edge. This only appears on Frosted Elfins.
