Eastern Tailed-Blue

June 2021

The Eastern Tailed-Blue (Everes comyntas) is a very common tiny blue and white butterfly that flies along meadow edges and other open areas. Males have a brilliant blue dorsal side with white fringe, and females can appear almost black from above. The ventral side is white with variable white dots and crescents, orange markings near the hindwing edge and tiny tails. Azures are larger and don’t have the orange marks or tails. Gray hairstreaks are larger and don’t have any spotting on the wings.
