The Crossline Skipper (Polites origenes) is an uncommon small grass skipper which is somewhat variable in color ranging from dark brownish orange to lighter orangey-yellow. They ventral side hindwings have a notable band of dots (very bold or sometimes extremely subtle) which sometimes helps differentiate them from the very similar Tawny-Edged Skipper. The leading edge of the dorsal side forewing of females has less orange than Tawny-Edged, and males Crosslines have a more angled orange edge as compared with the narrow orange edge of male Tawny-Edged Skippers.
