The Appalachian Azure (Celastrina neglectamajor) is a rare white butterfly with black/gray dots and crescents on the ventral side wings. These butterflies are very difficult to separate from the Spring Azure but lay their eggs on buds of Black Cohosh, and can often be found near large stands of the plant during their short flight period from early May through late June.
